چکیده

Quantifying leaf-litter and the potential contribution of essential nutrients to soil is key guaranteeing sustainability forest systems, especially in plantations under short rotation coppice, insofar as it can condition crop management such requirement for nutritional amendments. Nutrient cycling dependent on production well litter decomposition, so compare different strategies species nutrient recycling important not only determine quality quantity leaf litter, but also decomposition rate dynamics consequent incorporation organic matter into soil. Therefore, this work aims quantify analyze retranslocation rate, assess foliar biomass its concentrations, finally, evolution quality. For these purposes, eight genotypes were considered study: Populus deltoides (‘Baldo’), × canadensis (‘Ballottino’, ‘I-214′, ‘Orion’ ‘Oudenberg’); Platanus hispanica (‘Girona’), Salix matsudana spp. (‘Levante’) Robinia pseudoacacia (‘Nyirsegi’). The plantation was established central Spain with a density 10,000 cuttings ha−1. Three rotations 3 years each applied, study being carried out during first growing season second rotation. Although fall similar among species, highly specific. Different identified; greater N P found poplar, plane tree or case black locust conservation strategy, although lower all observed willow, which means that latter very rich nutrients. While even some poplar are capable releasing many released smaller variety nutrients, N, Mg immobilized leaf-litter. From perspective conserving fertility resulting from leaf-litter, highest rates, be most recommendable. However, immobilization process could satisfy requirements medium long term, thus an advantageous strategy mix dynamics.

Soil carbon and belowground carbon balance of a short‐rotation coppice: assessments from three different approaches

Uncertainty in soil carbon (C) fluxes across different land-use transitions is an issue that needs to be addressed for the further deployment of perennial bioenergy crops. A large-scale short-rotation coppice (SRC) site with poplar (Populus) and willow (Salix) was established to examine the land-use transitions of arable and pasture to bioenergy. Soil C pools, output fluxes of soil CO 2, CH 4, ...

Can we use short rotation coppice poplar for sugar based biorefinery feedstock? Bioconversion of 2-year-old poplar grown as short rotation coppice

BACKGROUND Feedstock cost is a substantial barrier to the commercialization of lignocellulosic biorefineries. Poplar grown using a short rotation coppice (SRC) system has the potential to provide a low-cost feedstock and economically viable sugar yields for fuels and chemicals production. In the coppice management regime, poplars are harvested after 2 years' growth to develop the root system an...

Can the agricultural AquaCrop model simulate water use and yield of a poplar short‐rotation coppice?

We calibrated and evaluated the agricultural model AquaCrop for the simulation of water use and yield of a short-rotation coppice (SRC) plantation with poplar (Populus) in East Flanders (Belgium) during the second and the third rotation (first 2 years only). Differences in crop development and growth during the course of the rotations were taken into account during the model calibration. Overal...

Why and How Political Science Can Contribute to Public Health? Proposals for Collaborative Research Avenues

Written by a group of political science researchers, this commentary focuses on the contributions of political science to public health and proposes research avenues to increase those contributions. Despite progress, the links between researchers from these two fields develop only slowly. Divergences between the approach of political science to public policy and the expectations that public hea...
